Profile for Max Comley

Max, originally from Cheltenham, has pursued a career in racing despite not coming from a racing background. After joining Kim Bailey and riding successfully for four seasons, he retired due to his height – he stands at 6ft 5in, and founded Comley Racing Ltd.

He quickly built a reputation by training point-to-pointers from a small farm, eventually relocating to Naunton as the yard expanded. The 2023/24 season proved to be a breakthrough year. The yard led the National Championship until April and ultimately finished third, recording an outstanding 37% winners-to-runners strike rate.

In November 2024, Max obtained a full training licence and moved operations to The Beeches Farm in Wiltshire, a top-class facility with racing heritage. In the 2025/2026 season he registered 16 winners from just 128 runners – a very healthy strike rate. With a further 50 runners finishing placed, his horses are very competitive.

With a determination and ambition, Max continues to develop horses and offer rewarding experiences for owners, positioning himself among the country’s leading young trainers.

Stables

Max Comley

In November 2025, Max Comley and his team relocated to The Beeches Stables in Wiltshire to support the continued growth and success of the yard. The Beeches is a purpose-built training establishment with a proven record of success, having produced multiple Graded winners over jumps as well as Group winners on the Flat. Designed with performance, welfare, and efficiency in mind, the facilities provide an exceptional environment for both horses and staff.

The facilities at the Yard offer outstanding opportunities for the growth, development and successful training of horses. They include: 85 large, well-ventilated loose boxes across seven American barns. Four isolation stables. A private one-mile carpet hill gallop and a private one-mile round gallop for steady work and schooling. Two horse walkers and a water walker. Lunge pen, outdoor ménage, grass schooling ground and post and rail paddocks.

We were actually familiar with the facilities having had a number of flat horses trained there a number of years ago. We are delighted to be there as it is an outstanding training facility.
