Lassana Angel wins for her shareholders on New Years Day

The five-year-old filly starts the new year with a memorable win

Lassana thrills her shareholders - on the first day of her new share period!

Lassana Angel promised to be a decent sort through last summer, but things didn't quite drop right for the filly, with a few placings but no wins. However, the switch to hurdling has certainly brought about a thrilling change in the mare.

On New Year's Day the mare was entered to run up at Catterick for her shareholders, giving them an excellent day out at the Teeside racecourse. At long odds she wasn't expected to show much by the bookies. However, shareholders who read Trainer Tommy Gretton's preview in their racehorse manager (provided when you are a shareholder with Ownaracehorse), were told the trainer felt there were only a couple of threats to her.

One of those was a non-runner and the other was the long odds-on favourite. In fact, when it came to running up the hill at Catterick there was only ever going to be one horse that would win. Lassana Angel, given a well judged ride from Alan Johns kicked on from the second last and went well clear to record a nine length victory.

You can watch the replay of the race below - look out for the Ownaracehorse blue and yellow colours! Unfortunately there is now commentary, as Racing TV were providing a Cheltenham commentary at the same time!
