DATE POSTED: 19th February 2019

The annual Godolphin Stable Staff Awards were held last night at an event hosted by the BHA at the Jumeirah Carlton Tower hotel in Knightsbridge, London.

Our trainer Ollie Pears was there to witness his longstanding travelling head lad John Bottomley be announced as the winner of the Dedication to Racing Award. John has been in racing for many years and in the last twelve years has been leading up Ownaracehorse horses. He is particularly well known for leading up Roaring Rory, with whom he has enjoyed many victorious runs.

The judges commented on how difficult the decision had been, as John was among three finalists, from an initial pool of dozens of nominated members of staff from all over the country. John was presented his award by Oli Bell and posed for photographs afterwards with Sir Anthony (Tony) McCoy.

Ollie Pears was delighted with the award, stating 'John really deserves this, he's the ideal member of staff and I'm so pleased his hard work over the last fifty plus years has been recognised. He is excellent with the horses and I've learnt plenty from him during his time here at The Old Barn Stables. He trained horses and he's worked for many of the great trainers in Malton and I'm really lucky to have him as a member of my staff. When we nominated him we were just delighted for him to get into the last three, but to win it is just superb.'

Ownaracehorse and all our shareholders would like to congratulate John on this richly deserved recognition of his working life in racing.
