Second victory in the £25k Rous Stakes in three years for Ownaracehorse Shareholders
A big outsider, Carnation Queen was freely available at 40/1 on the course at York on Friday afternoon, but was returned 25/1. However, the filly came with an incredible run to challenge the strongly fancied U Turn in the last furlong and get her head in front.
Harry Russell gave the filly a cool ride and he admitted himself he was stunned by the way she picked up over one and a half out.
'She had travelled well behind horses, but when I pulled her out she just short forward. I wasn't anticipating that!' said Harry afterwards.
He added, 'I only gave her a couple of small taps and she flew. After that, I rode her hands and heels, because she wanted it that badly, there wasn't any need to give her another reminder!'
Carnation Queen won the £25k race by a head to the delight of her 32 shareholders, and in total, 48 connections who were there to witness the win from a free private box Ownaracehorse provided for them. You can watch the race below, the filly jumps from stall five with the yellow cap.
