Ownaracehorse has a unique method of making racehorse ownership affordable yet with all the benefits of ownership - very often including a share of the winnings.

When you browse the 'View the Horses' area of the web site you can choose from many different types of horses.  There are a few details you should consider:

When do I want my ownership to start?

Every horse has a 'start date' representing when the ownership will begin.  Some of the horses may have already started their period of ownership with Ownaracehorse so that your involvement starts immediately.  You can buy your share at any point in time - and your Horse Manager account will be created immediately, although the full service will not commence until the share period starts.

When should I buy my share?

We always display a real-time view of how many shares are available and how many have been sold.  Because we are providing you with real shares, when they have all gone we are unable to provide any more in the same horse.  Therefore we recommend buying well before the share start date to avoid any disappointment.

How long do I want to be involved?

Each ownership period lasts for a set time.  Sometimes we will offer a horse just for the season it is running, or alternatively we may take the horse for a full year.  If there are still shares available in a horse with only a few months left to run on its share period, you could get involved for very little!

How much should I pay?

We have shares to suit all pockets, so how much you pay is up to yourself.  However, you do need to consider how many shares you buy, because it will relate to whether you can collect a share of winnings or if you can syndicate your share amongst friends or family. Having a high level of shares in a single horse or having shares in multiple horses also gives you preferential treatment for free owners badges to the races.

What am I actually buying?

You are buying service from Ownaracehorse which includes a stated percentage in a horse which is managed on your behalf by Ownaracehorse. Once you have purchased your share, we create an account for you in our 'Horse Manager' - when buying your share we will quote the percentage of the horse in which you are involved.

Your account shows the exact percentage of the horse you are invloved with.  The percentage is an exact reflection of the overall ownership of the horse, so if we state shares are equivalent to 0.25% and you buy four shares, you will be allocated 1% of the horse.  If you want further information, please refer to our Terms and Conditions or call us on our helpdesk number.

How do I work out my winnings?

If you buy enough shares to qualify for winnings, your allocated winnings will appear in your 'Horse Manager' within a few days of the race.  Winnings are paid according to the position your horse finishes (generally the first three in a race will attract winnings, with the lions share to the winner).  The value of the race is stated in the racing press - but there are various costs which are deducted from winnings such as jockey and trainer percentages - which can add up to 30% of the total.

As an example, if you own 2% of a horse and the horse wins a race worth £4000 to the winner, you could expect about £55 to be added to your 'Horse Manager' account.  Winnings are paid at the end of the lease, either by Paypal or Cheque.    

How do I get Owners badges?

Most racecourses provide a number of free owners badges per horse.  This can vary from course to course but is usually between 6 and 10 badges per horse.

Owners badges can be collected at the racecourse from the 'Members' entrance and they allow you entrance to the raceday for free. 

When your horse is declared for a race you may apply for badges via your 'Horse Manager'.  We allocate badges according to how many shares you hold, whether you have been allocated them before, and the amount available.  You may apply for as many badges as your require, but we cannot guarantee they will be granted.  You are informed either way by email.

If you are not allocated badges, you may still attend the races - the average cost of entry as a member to a UK Racecourse is about £20.00.   

What happens when my share period ends?

Your Ownaracehorse account will stay open, but will not be updated with any further information regarding your horse.  With certain horses we may offer an extension to the share ownership period - if this is the case you will receive notification.

Each horse is allocated a set number of shares which relates to the overall 'ownership' of the horse.  The individual share percentages are usually under one percent of the overall horse.  When you purchase your first share you are provided with a Ownaracehorse account, which holds your share and gives you access to our 'Horse Manager'.  You may then purchase as many shares in different horses as you wish, each time adding them to your account.

In order to provide this service we strictly follow the Weatherbys and British Horseracing Board's rules on co-ownership.  Therefore, whilst Ownaracehorse owns the horse for the share period, we do not pass any proprietary ownership rights to our account holders.  However, we do provide all the benefits you would normally associate with racehorse ownership, including winnings, directly in line with the percentage of the horse you have purchased. 

Before you open an account with Ownaracehorse you should be aware that you are participating in Ownaracehorse purely for the purposes of fun and enjoyment.

Each ownership account is secure and private - and allows account holders to view the latest news on their horse, see declarations, read race reviews and race plans, watch video of past races and contact their trainers.  You can also request badges when your horse is due to run, and post questions and comments to other owners regarding your horse's performance.

When your horse is due to run, the Horse Manager system sends you an email alert at every declaration stage and if you decide to go to the racetrack, you may qualify for free members badges.  Regardless of whether you obtain a free members badge, on most occasions a representative of Ownaracehorse will be at the track to introduce you to the trainer and jockey in the parade ring - and hopefully the winners enclosure after the race!

Ownaracehorse is a great way of experiencing racehorse ownership without the usual financial uncertainty and obligations - but with all the benefits you would normally associate with owning a racehorse.
