Title:
Racing Secretary
Basis: Flexible Part-time.
Reports to:
Managing Director
Based at:
Home based, but travel to racecourses and training
establishments may be required from time to time.
Job purpose:
This is a rare opportunity to work in horseracing, helping to
manage the office of a racing syndication company with 15-20
horses in training at any one time. The role is broad,
covering all aspects of administration, management of racehorse
information, dealing with current and potentially new
shareholders and racehorse trainers. Some telephone sales
processing and basic accounts responsibilities are included in
this role. There would also be a requirement to attend the races
or the trainers premises as a representative of the company on
an ad-hoc basis.
Key
responsibilities and accountabilities:

Contribute to and update a high quality online shareholder
information system.

Answer
telephone and email enquiries from shareholders.

Provide
cover during holiday periods.

Manage
some routine basic accounts and other administrative tasks.

Liaise
with trainers and other third party suppliers.

Represent Ownaracehorse on race days or yard visits,
ensuring shareholders are looked after at all times.

Liaise
and attend meetings with other members of staff necessary to
perform duties and aid the development of
Ownaracehorse.
Personality:
We are looking for someone who would relish a new challenge
within the horseracing industry. A passion for horseracing
is a pre-requisite. You need to be able to manage and present
information accurately and in a timely fashion, sometimes under
strict deadlines. Working from home, you should be self
disciplined and willing to have flexible working arrangements.
Well presented, businesslike and friendly when meeting
shareholders, you must be sufficiently mobile and flexible to
travel up to two hours from home to race meetings or trainers
stables. If you are keen for a new experience within horseracing
and wanting to contribute and help expand our business you will
have every opportunity to do so. This position would
probably suit a retired or semi-retired horseracing enthusiast
who would like to supplement their income whilst being involved
in an absorbing and exciting sport.
Personal Situation: Must be mature and domestically
secure. Able to work extended hours on occasions when required.
The nature of horseracing means that some limited work on
Sundays and Bank Holidays should be acceptable. Ideally will be
a car owner with a clean, or near clean driving licence.
Specific Job Skills:
Able to communicate via written media and possess a working
knowledge of UK horseracing. Good telephone manner a distinct
advantage.
Computer skills:
Must be adept in use of MS Office 2000 or later, particularly
Word and Excel. Internet and email knowledge is absolutely
essential. Experience of Frontpage, Dreamweaver or a similar
web authoring tool to basic level ideal, although training will
be provided.
Literacy and Numeracy:
The role requires good levels of both numeracy and written
english. A knowledge of basic accounting is desirable.
Salary:
£7.00 per hour plus travelling expenses (hours and days worked
per month negotiable).

Home based, but travel to racecourses and training establishments
required. Southern or Midlands based ideally.
Job purpose:
This is a rare opportunity to become involved with the management of the
day to day information provision and reporting on a syndicated group of
racehorses. There will be plenty of liaison with racehorse
trainers and racehorse shareholders by phone and email, plus
representation of Ownaracehorse at racecourses on race days.
Creative writing on multiple racehorses in training is a key attribute
of the position, plus basic web publishing.
Key responsibilities

racehorse trainers.

We are looking for someone who is self-driven, with a positive outlook,
and a clear focus on high quality information provision. A passion
for horseracing, rather than gambling is a pre-requisite. You need to
be an empathic communicator who is able to see things from the other
person's point of view.
