George Foster joins ranks of Ownaracehorse trainers
................................................................................
September 2009
We are delighted to introduce George Foster as the newest
trainer to train horses for Ownaracehorse.
We have over the years received a number of requests about when and if
we would ever place horses in training in Scotland and we felt that the
time was right to pursue this ahead of the 2010 Flat season. We spoke
to several trainers but went with George as he impressed us from our
first meeting with him.
He has a wealth of experience and has worked with some of the biggest
names in racing - Michael Dickinson, Barry Hills, Peter Chapple-Hyam,
John Gosden and Brian Meehan. He worked at Manton during their golden
period in the early 1990's when the likes of Rodrigo De Triano, Dr
Devious and Spectrum passed through the yard.
He briefly held a licence in his own name during the 1990's and has only
been back in training for two seasons since returning to Scotland in
2007. Initially based at Dalkeith things didn't work out there, despite
sending out 9 winners during 2008. He moved to his current premises
just outside the village of Stenton in November 2008.
It is a beautiful backdrop and George and his team have carried out
significant improvements to the barns on the farm where he is based.
Despite this transition period he has still sent out 8 winners in 2009.
There is a feeling that with things now very much in place 2010 is the
year for him to really kick on.
We have already secured the popular sprinter Sandwith with George and
shares are now available in this horse for the 2010 season. We will be
looking to increase our number with him in the next few weeks.
We are particularly looking forward to the stable visits at Stoneypath
Farm as it is in a very beautiful setting and we hope that many of our
shareholders based further north will take advantage of this opportunity
to see their horses racing near to home.
