First Rhapsody beaten a short head
....................................................................................
June 2005
The following was posted to our shareholder area
following First Rhapsody's gallant run in the seven furlong handicap at
Carlisle on 14th June:
...........................................................................................
Well, what can you say about being beaten by a
short-head...
Rosie [as she is known in the yard] ran a tremendous race, and was all
over the winner half a furlong out, only to be taken in the last strides
by Richard Fahey's Whitethorne.
In the end, the race was down to twelve runners, with notably Bond
Finesse not making the line-up
At the off, First Rhapsody got away well from the stalls, and managed to
tack over to race about three wide in the mid-division. Turning in
Saleem Golam was going well and asked her to quicken on the outside and
she travelled well to track the leaders.
Into the straight, we were possibly going the best of the entire field,
but had to check about three out to avoid a weakening horse. She hit
the front just over a furlong out and immediately sprinted two lengths
clear of the field. However, that burst of speed was matched by
Whitethorne, who moved with her in the final furlong.
With fifty yards to run Rosie was still in the lead, but under
pressure. With ten yards to run she was still in the lead, but on the
line Whitethorn asserted and won by a short-head.
The photograph was inevitable, but despite willing the caller to
announce number eleven as the winner, we were confirmed as being
second.
Rosie came in blowing slightly, but none the worse for her race. She
battled well up the run in and there is plenty of positives to take from
the race.
First Rhapsody still managed to win just over £900 in prizemoney for
that run, which will be divided amongst shareholders within the next two
days. We will also report on how she come out of the race in the next
day.
Overall, a super performance. With a bit more luck, we could have been
celebrating a win. However, she is sparkling form at the moment and we
await her next run with the confidence that she is an in-form horse.

A few unexposed sorts in this 0-70 fillies' handicap which was run at
just a fair gallop, and the first two, both of whom were brought to race
up the centre, finished clear.
WHITETHORNE proved suited by the step back to seven
furlongs, and responding well, got up close home. She's fairly unexposed
and may improve again when stepped up to a mile.
First Rhapsody had the ground to suit, and ran right up
to form as her apprentice was putting up 2lb overweight. After getting
to the lead, she was caught in the final stride.
You can still get involved for only £59.90!
