2YO's Miss Starry Eyed and Poppy's Purse expected to have their racing debuts only 15 minutes apart
    DATE POSTED: 30/05/2012
It appears that 2YO racehorse debuts is a bit like waiting for buses...  It takes seven months of waiting, and then two of them will make their debut only minutes apart.

It wasn't planned to happen this way, but on Bank Holiday Monday we will see Poppy's Purse contest a maiden Auction at Redcar and within fifteen minutes Miss Starry Eyed will set off on her racing career at Leicester.

Both filly's have come to themselves at exactly the same time, and both trainers, Ollie Pears and Derek Shaw have independently found the right starter races for them.

Miss Starry Eyed runs at 2-00pm at Leicester, followed by Poppy's Purse at 2-15pm at Redcar.
Both Poppy's Purse and Miss Starry Eyed have made giant strides in the last few weeks, and go into their first races having had a smooth preparation.

Poppy's Purse is a lovely tall filly with plenty about her, but is looking a sharp type, whilst Miss Starry Eyed is a compact and quick sort who will give shareholders in the South plenty to cheer about if she is as half as good as her full brother (Pint Size) as a 2YO.

As with any juvenile, you really don't know what you're going to get from them until they get into a race, and opening races can be a difficult experience for any horse.

However, once these two run on Bank Holiday Monday, their careers will start to pan out according to their ability and attitude - which is part of the joy in owning an un-tried racehorse.

Assuming both horses run on Monday, that will mean that all three of our 2YO's for this flay season will have had a run - something of an achievement, as only 25% of 2YO's in training will see a racecourse before September each year.  Credit goes both to our trainers and our bloodstock sourcing team.

A few shares remain in both untried horses, but are selling out quickly now their opening entries have been posted.
