|Brunello wins on only his second attempt over chase fences|
|DATE POSTED: 29/12/2014|
It looks like we have
another really decent chaser on our hands! On only his second
ever race over Chase fences Brunello managed to land a competitive
little chase at Catterick on December 28th...
We have managed to syndicate a number of decent chasers over the last ten years, and enjoyed plenty of success, especially at the Midland and Northern tracks. Now it looks like we have another favourite handicap chaser in the making in the shape of Brunello.
This 6YO was only having his second ever outing over chase fences, and managed to reel in the leader up the home straight with a combination of great jumping and good old fashioned toughness to land the 2m 3f £5,000 added finale at Catterick.
Brunello came with a real rattle up the home straight to land the spoils for his shareholders.
The most appealing part of his win was that Brunello showed plenty of gameness and courage to fight back after leading, but then going three lengths down with two to jump. He jumped impressively over the last two fences, getting away from them very quickly, and then made up the final length and a half on the half furlong run to the line - eventually overcoming the joint favourite by half a length with seven lengths back to the third.
The race was run in the best aggregate time of the day - giving the form of this all-age handicap a good boost.
Adam Nicol partnered Bruno to his victory, never giving up and managing to wear down his rival in the shadow of the post to record a much-deserved victory. Trainer Michael Smith took charge of the gelding in summer, and after only four runs has managed to conjure a win from the talented son of Leporello, and it looks like he has a rosy future ahead of him over the bigger obstacles.
The gelding will now be built up again for his next outing, which is expected to be in January.
