|New share periods about to start and a visit to Derek Shaw's yard a week on Sunday|
|DATE POSTED: 25/09/2011|
October is almost upon us, and so the
focus for Ownaracehorse now changes from the turf season to the
All-Weather and winter jumping.
We have a strong team of artificial surface biased racehorses for the forthcoming All-Weather season. As well as Councellor, Sarah's Art and My Best Bet, who will continue their turf seasons into the winter for a while, we have some exciting young horses who are about to start their entire careers.
Klassy Lassy and Dancing Ellie Mae will both start their racing careers on the All-Weather. Both needed time to mature during their 2YO year, but are ready to start racing very soon. Both of their share periods start in the next week or so, and trainer Derek Shaw has both of them working hard at home at present, to put the finishing touches to them both before they grace a racecourse.
We believe we have a potential sprinter in Dancing Ellie Mae, and Klassy Lassy has all the makings of a miler. It will certainly be interesting to see how both of them get on in such a crucial part of their careers'.
Meanwhile, we also have a robust and interesting handicapper called Shaws Diamond to look forward to. He is actively getting entries at the moment, and we envisage a successful campaign for him, as he's at the right end of the handicap, and is a proven winner. Derek is very sweet on this mare, and we believe his confidence won't be mis-placed, as the five-year-old has been set up specifically with an All-Weather campaign in mind.
If you speak with shareholders who have had horses with us through the winter months previously you will soon realise that the code provides plenty of racing, and Derek certainly believes that his horses should run if they are fit, so we're really looking forward to a return to the sand this winter. All our All-Weather flat horses start their share periods on October 1st - and we will have our first yard visit to Derek's yard on October 9th.
Meanwhile for the die hard jumping fans, we have Cockspur with James Evans, who will be our chaser through the traditional jumps season. He should be starting his winter campaign in the coming weeks.
Of course October is also the time when we are sending horses to the sales and buying in new talent, so look out for some pretty radical changes in our horses and trainers over the next few weeks in preparation for 2012.
