|A new dual-purpose gelding joins the Ownaracehorse ranks|
|DATE POSTED: 23/05/2013|
five-year-old gelding is our newest recruit for the summer flat
season. Trained in North Yorkshire by Philip Kirby, he is due
to start racing for Ownaracehorse very soon...
If its a dual-purpose horse you are looking for for some summer fun over the next six months, then look no further than Brunello, a lovely big gelding who has already proved his worth on the flat and before long will face hurdles.
Already a winner on the flat, Brunello joined our syndicates earlier this week and is already working away nicely at Philip Kirby's yard in Middleham. This gelding has three half brothers who have all won or been placed in Listed company on the flat and perhaps more interestingly, three of them have won over hurdles in decent company.
Brunello is a big bay, and will certainly be tall and powerful enough to be jumping hurdles, if not chase fences - however, its one step at a time for now - he will be entered for middle-distance handicaps starting in the first week of June 2013.
Philip Kirby told us "He's a really good looking and scopey sort and I think he's a great addition to the yard. We'll probably start him off over a mile and half in handicaps and see how he gets on - but he's already won over that distance, and definitely gets further than that as well."
He added "I have my eye on some of those nice long distance handicaps at Pontefract, and we may just see if he suits that venue at some point during June. He will act on any sort of surface apart from extremes of going, so he will be fairly easy to place, and based on his work at home so far, I think we'll get along with him just fine!"
There are a limited number of shares left in the gelding for the 2013 summer season.
