Philip Kirby currently trains both
Stormy Morning (won and been placed five times this year so far)
and Crumble (young mare destined to go Novice Chasing this
winter) for our shareholders, and at our yard visit on Sunday
(21st October) was full of hope for both of these very different
Philip has risen through
the training ranks in the last five years to become
a regular feature of racing in the North.
Whilst he started to make his mark with jumpers,
this year has seen a marked increase in his runners
- and winners - on the turf.
Shareholders enjoyed glorious
sunshine on Sunday as Philip paraded both Ownaracehorse horses,
as well as sharing his hopes for a number of other horses for
the up-coming winter season with his appreciative audience.
Stormy Morning is due to resume hurdling in about a fortnight,
whilst Crumble will have a few spins over hurdles before
starting her 'real' job of Novice Chasing.
Philip has a strong team of jumpers ready for the winter, and we
would suggest you keep an eye on this wily young trainer - his
jumps winners will start to flow soon enough based on what we
saw and heard on Sunday!
This visit was one of three yards we have visited in the last
few weeks - with shareholders enjoying a rare opportunity to get
up close to their horses and get to know them on a one-to-one
basis. We also have a visit to Derek Shaw's yard in
Leicestershire coming up in November. All our yard visits
are completely free and are held in an informal, friendly
atmosphere which is all about the horse, rather than attempting
