|Stormy Morning booms back into form with a neck second at Wolverhampton|
|DATE POSTED: 21/08/2014|
You could be forgiven
for having given up on eight-year-old Stormy Morning this season, as
the gelding appeared out of sorts for a few runs during the heart of
summer, but a neck second at Wolverhampton showed he still has what
There was a glimmer of a return to form from Stormy Morning when he ran at Lingfield a few weeks ago, and trainer Philip Kirby was keen to try and build on that this week - and indeed he did, as the veteran gelding led with only 50 yards to go to the line. He got collared close home, but only went down by a neck.
Stormy is an Ownaracehorse favourite and almost won again for us this week
There are some horses which really get under your skin and into your soul, and 'Stormy' is certainly one of those types of horses! He can be enigmatic and frustrating, delightful and a winner - all in the same season. And it's exactly how this season has gone so for for him, with a touch of virtually every sentiment applying to his running.
Philip Kirby is now working out a finish to his campaign which will see the eight-year-old go back to the Tapeta surface at Wolverhampton with shareholders hoping that Stormy can go one better and get that win for them. He is a versatile sort, happy at any distance between a mile and a half, up to two miles, so the opportunities should present themselves, but for shareholders at the track on Monday evening, it was hearts in mouth as he attempted to see off the challengers in the final stages of the one mile and six furlong race!
Expect to see entries for this wonderful chap being made in another week or two's time.
