Prickles runs a corker at Uttoxeter and is all set up for a big summer of jumping in the Midlands

Despite being allowed to go off at 33/1 on Saturday, our summer jumper Prickles managed to finish a very promising third at Uttoxeter in front of a large crowd and live on Channel 4 racing...

Prickles is a really nice bay by top National Hunt sire Karinga Bay, and ridden by Tom Messenger she set off around Uttoxeter over the minimum two miles out the back of the pack.

As they went into the last circuit, she was still out the back, and probably written off by many pundits, but then started to make eye-catching progress.

Over three out she had travelled to within four lengths of the lead, and after having to bypass the second last she ran down through four horses to get within a couple of lengths of the winner and second.

The key to this mare is the track and ground, and we fully expect that she will be going back to Uttoxeter during their summer jumps meetings!

Derek Shaw was delighted - and is all ready planning this mare's next target race.  The share period for Prickles starts in two weeks and runs all the way through the summer, allowing her to race over jumps and on the flat when the opportunities are there.
