Trainer Philip Kirby declared himself
'delighted' with the way shareholders racehorse Stormy Morning ran
at Musselburgh yesterday. The 6YO gelding was having his
second race of 2012 and despite being bumped and having to go wide
around the bottom bend, finished well to take third in one of the
most competitive races of the day...
Philip Kirby had plenty to be positive about following a really good
day at the office on Thursday. Not only did he have a second
with 'Call It On' in the chase, but he managed first and third in
the big handicap of the day.
Speaking this morning he told us "It was
a great day, and it was good to see all my horses put in
very competitive performances - especially in the
He continued "'Stormy' ran a cracking race for his
shareholders, and when you consider he was giving my
other horse a stone, he's done really well. What
was most gratifying was the fact he travelled so well on
the 'Good' ground which bodes well for the rest of the
year over hurdles, but also on the turf."
Stormy Morning won over hurdles just before Christmas in
soft ground conditions, but as a dual purpose racehorse
he is set to race right through spring and summer on
both National Hunt and Flat codes of racing.
Philip is particularly looking
forward to when the ground gets to proper fast ground, as he
believes the gelding will thoroughly enjoy some of the two mile flat
handicaps available in the North through the summer.
We still have a few shares left in this really solid performer, and
with Philip's spring yard visit not too far away he would be a great
share for a gift or for a racing enthusiast who wants to get
involved in ownership and follow the exploits of a very competitive
and likeable gelding.
