Derek Shaw yard visit enjoys great weather and plenty to see at Sproxton in Leicestershire

We held our last yard visit of the year this weekend at Derek Shaw's yard in Sproxton, near to Melton Mowbray and it proved to be very popular and a great success...

Derek Shaw was hosting our last visit of the year this Sunday at his yard at Sproxton, near Melton Mowbray.

Once again, we were blessed with some superb weather, as we were greeted with blue skies and sun for the entire morning.  Derek was in great form as always, along with his supporting team of lads, lasses, and Lyndsey Shaw, his wife.  As in all the best training yards, it's not just the trainer who runs the yard - and Lyndsey is a talented horsewoman in her own right.

Chateau Lola (shares available now) rounds the bottom of the gallop.

After a parade of the two horses we have at the yard and a discussion on where and when they would be racing, we were toured around the yard by Derek and his staff, and then it was up to the gallops to see both horses work.  Firstly, a warm up, and then a canter around their smaller gallop, before going for a three-quarter pace breeze up the main gallop.

Both horses are only a fortnight away from their next race, and they looked ready enough from what this observer could see!

After following the two horses back to see them get washed down and dried off we had another look around the yard, followed by a coffee and biscuits, before we realised it was
1-00pm! Derek headed off with a runner for Market Rasen later in the afternoon, but we enjoyed conversations with shareholders in the sun outside their Owners rooms.

A really enjoyable visit - and we'll be back there in spring, seeing how the two fillys have got on, as well as meeting the new yearling due to join the yard in the New Year.
