|Regular Ownaracehorse jockey Tom Messenger gets his first ride in the Grand National on Saturday|
|DATE POSTED: 05/04/2011|
Tom Messenger is all set to take his
first ever ride in the Grand National.
Tom is a regular jockey for Ownaracehorse and has partnered many of our jumpers to victory over the last few years, and we're delighted to see this hardworking and respected rider get his first chance to partner a thoroughbred around Aintree's National course.
His mount for the big race is the Chris Bealby trained 'Surface To Air', and this ten-year-old is not without a chance. Being very lightly raced in the last few years he made a comeback run a fortnight ago which will hopefully have put him right for the big day.
Rated 123, this gelding had significant success in good quality races in 2008, and after missing the last two years, has been set up for a tilt at one of the biggest races of the year. He is currently priced at around 100/1.
We will be watching Tom carefully on Saturday, and wish him all the luck possible - not only in seeing Surface To Air run a big race for his rider and connections, but also that the ten-year-old and Tom both return home safe and sound.
The National is run this Saturday and will be live on BBC1 at 4-15pm.
