This half-sister to our own very consistent and successful chaser Little Jimmy is set to have her debut season in the 2017-18 National Hunt season starting in October 2018.
This filly has been on our radar for three years - when we discovered that our top winning chaser Little Jimmy had this half sister. The mare has only had two offspring, and once we knew she could become available, we and the trainer Tom Gretton planned to keep tabs on her development and secure her before reaching the sales ring. we went to see her at the breeders at the end of Spring and were suitably pleased with her to buy her and place her in training for this next winter season.
This filly is interesting from a couple of perspectives - as she is a very decent size, (bigger than Jimmy was at this stage of his life), and she is conformed nicely. Obviously she is closely related to a very decent chaser, but her sire Denounce is an interesting mating. This sire has only had a few mares go to him, but he has had considerable success with a good number of them at distances up to a mile and a half on the flat. Denounce himself showed ability on his three starts for Juddmonte before injury ruled him out of further races.
This filly will follow a standard un-raced National Hunt route this season, as she will be readied for her opening run in October or November and will almost certainly go straight over hurdles. She is bred to need over two miles in distance and we expect 2m Bumpers will simply be too short for her, so she will contest Maiden hurdles to gain experience. Prospective shareholders must understand that this filly is a long term prospect - we expect to keep her in training for a number of years (her half-brother is now racing in his sixth winter season!) and this opening season to her career is all about educating her, gaining experience and learning about her.
Tom believes the filly will race between 2-5 times, but she will certainly not be campaigned too rigourously. She is a long term prospect and will be treated as such. Thats not to say she cannot run, win and do so more than a few times, but we want to be clear with prospective shareholders that they should treat their involvement with the filly as more than simply one season. As such, we are offering a guarantee that any returning shareholders for her 2019 winter season will receive their share at a 15% discount to our advertised prices compared to new people joining the syndicate.
She is a bay coloured filly who is starting to tighten up and do a lot more on the gallops at Inkberrow, close to Worcester. She was broken during early summer and has been in full training since May. Tommy has already jumped her over small obstacles and she has a very similar 'feel' to her as her sibling, Little Jimmy.
He stated "This filly is already a decent size. She moves well, and has a similar temperament to Jimmy. She is obviously very green at the moment, and she will be learning a great deal on her opening few runs, but I'm really looking forward to it, as she is a proper National Hunt horse and its always nice to have them from the very start of their careers."
Tom added “On his day Jimmy is a really good horse, and will be competitive in pretty much any chase race. If she has that same attitude in her races, and gains some of the speed from her sire we will have a good time with her this winter. I want to make it clear that we will not be over-racing her though - she may only run a few times this first season. We will see how it goes, but I do expect her forte will be chasing, just like her brother.”
Jimmy's sister is already well into her build-up for this winter and she will continue to be schooled over hurdles culminating in her opening run of the 2017-18 season sometime in October or November. The plan is to go into Maiden hurdle races and let her grow in confidence. If she proves to be robust, then she may well even jump a chase fence in the spring of 2018.
Little Jimmy is a really popular, winning syndicate horse, and we believe Jimmy's Sister has the profile to be very similar. Like her brother, she will need time to find her feet - but that is all part of the process of bringing a chaser along, and this is why we are offering shareholders a guarantee of a run, a low cost first season, and a guarantee of a reduction in costs for her 2019 season for shareholders who decide to stay with her.
