Racehorse Profile

Orithia (named after the Amazonian Goddess) not only looks the part, she is bred to be top class.  We bought this filly from the Book 2 Tattersalls Yearlings sales in October 2015 with her trainer Seamus Durack after being completely impressed with her stature and presence.  She is the most expensive filly we have ever purchased, costing 40,000 guineas and as a result she has an impeccable pedigree as well as the looks and confirmation to go with it.  Her bloodlines are ostensibly US based, but her Mother was placed in the 2010 Albany Stakes over six furlongs at Royal Ascot on only her third run.

Her sire, More Than Ready, will not be immediately recognisable to UK racegoers, as he was a Grade 1 performer in the USA.  However, he stands for $50,000 and has sired a long line of Group and Stakes winners and is particularly well known in breeding circles as a reliable source of high quality sprint 2YO's.  More Than Ready was a Group One winning racehorse, and he also ran well in the Breeders Cup Sprint.  In recent years he has also proved to produce horses which can mature and improve, with half a dozen of his offspring earning more than $1,000,000 in prizemoney.

We loved this filly as soon as we saw her.  She is everything you would wish for in a racehorse - well proportioned, well muscled up and obviously well-handled as a yearling by her breeders.  She walks with a swagger and covers the ground, gripping the ground as she steps and showed no signs of any negative temperament or vices.

She took time to find her feet after having a disrupted summer as a 2YO, suffering from a cough which swept through Lambourn, as well as a virus in the late spring.  However, she recovered to run in the last few months of the season.  She has steadily progressed with every run, being very green on debut, but delivering a promising performance in a high quality maiden over much further in October.

Seamus Durack commented "She is really well handicapped and we are looking forward to her as a 3YO, as she has ability, but just didn't have the best of summers as a 2YO, with a couple of setbacks - neither of which effected her physically, she just picked up the sort of bugs youngsters do."

He added "She has been given a real chance to progress by the handicapper, and I'm looking forward to seeing her go over a longer trip and as she matures mentally as well as physically, we should have some fun working our way up the handicap ranks."

The filly will have a two month winter break before re-starting full training in January and could be ready to start her 2017 season in February.  If the filly is ready before the turf starts, we will bring her share period start-date forward at no extra cost so that shareholders don't miss any run.

As soon as we have the early indications of the likely raceplans from Seamus for the filly we will make shareholders aware.  Part of the thrill of owning a racehorse is the expectation of their seasonal debut, and shareholders will have the chance to visit her at Seamus's yard before she goes to a racecourse for her opening run of 2017.

We must stress that shares in an expensive and well bred racehorse like this are not usually available to small-share syndicates.  This filly has yet to fulfil her potential, but has shown on the gallops at home and given signs on the track that the penny is dropping with her.  She has everything in place to be a classy individual, and whilst there are never any guarantees with racehorses, and especially youngsters, there will be considerable anticipation surrounding this filly's first few runs in handicaps.

  Breeding Information

2YO (3YO in 2017) Bay Filly - March 12th 2014
By More Than Ready out of Tiz My Time (Sharp Humour)

This filly is by one of the most sought after US based sires, More Than Ready. He stands in America at a cost of $50,000 per covering and was a top class Group One performer over distances between six furlongs and a mile.  He ran in the US, winning a Group One - The Bishop Stakes, and was fifth in the Breeders Cup Sprint. He has proved to be a successful sire, capable to getting precocious 2YO's and progeny which tend to progress well. He has a large number of Group One winning offspring.

Tiz My Time was a $100,000 yearling and ran three times, twice in the States before being sent over to the UK and finishing third in the Albany at Royal Ascot on her last run before being sent to the paddocks. She has one other offspring to have run, called Time Space, who is a 74 rated ten furlong horse.

Race Plans

The race plans for this filly will be determined by her level of ability shown at home and on the course in 2017.  On breeding she is sprint bred, but she has already shown signs of stamina and we expect she could be running over a mile as a 3YO.

With this filly having already run enough times to qualify for nursery handicaps, she will continue in this vein through 2017 - eventually into full handicap company, or if she proves to be good enough, possibly better company.  She showed at Chelmsford in November 2016 when finishing second on her handicap debut that she has ability and has progressed with every run to date.

This filly will be stabled in Lambourn, Berkshire throughout her 3YO career and will therefore be racing in the South at tracks such as Sandown, Windsor, Kempton, Lingfield, Newmarket, Ascot, Bath and others in the Midlands.

There are plenty of races available for her right from the start of the season.  We will assess this filly's progress and if Seamus believes she has the right level of ability she may get entries for some of the more prestigious handicap races in the racing calendar.

Your online Racehorse Manager will provide full details of all developments in terms of race planning as the season progresses.

Value Guarantee

We expect to get 3-6 runs and possibly more from this racehorse in her share period, however, you should expect periods of no racing as a result of recuperation from injury or training setbacks.   This share period starts April 1st 2017 and runs through the summer turf season, finishing on November 1st 2017.

During the season the horse may be rested or have time away from the track to recover and it is quite normal for a racehorse to have periods of 3-6 weeks rest between races. Young horses are particularly susceptible to sore shins, bone chips and growing pains, and can need a greater time to recover between races.

For this filly we offer the following guarantee:  If due to injury or retirement, this filly's season is cut short and will not race again, and she has not raced at least twice, we will replace her with a similar horse for the remainder of the 2017 turf season. Please note that we are unable to pay prizemoney on any replacements and the replacement will be a horse of our own choosing. FILLY HAS ALREADY REACHED HER MINIMUM RUNS.

As a shareholder you must understand that we cannot guarantee your horses performance, a specific volume of runs (beyond our minimum guarantee) or that runs will be evenly spaced throughout the share period.  This is the chance you take when owning any racehorse and participating in this ownership experience.  If you will be disappointed with only 2-3 runs from your racehorse during the season, then please DO NOT PARTICIPATE IN THIS OR ANY OTHER RACEHORSE.  We believe in being crystal clear with our shareholders - any participation in racehorse ownership is high risk, and we are unable to make any refunds because of share periods which finish early due to injury or retirement - as training and livery fees for the horse still remain whether they are racing or not.  This is the chance all shareholders take, as we do ourselves, when participating in the ownership of a racehorse.
